Professor Dean Everett is an internationally recognised infectious diseases and molecular microbiology researcher with over two decades of experience across the Middle East, Africa, and the United Kingdom. He is Full Professor of Infectious Diseases at Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, where he leads the Infection Research Unit. His research focuses on pathogen genomics, genomic epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), One Health, and the surveillance of bacterial and respiratory pathogens, with particular interest in using genomics to identify transmission, emerging lineages, and resistance threats before they become established.

He contributes to the UAE’s national response to AMR through the Ministry of Health and Prevention’s National AMR Committee, supporting the National Action Plan and national AMR surveillance. He also serves on the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group. Previously based in Tanzania and Malawi for over 20 years, his work has helped advance genomic surveillance and understanding of pathogen transmission, vaccine impact, and antimicrobial resistance in high-burden settings.
